EuroSafety 2026: 3 Smart Tools Shaping Occupational Safety in the Nordics

EuroSafety 2026 brings safety professionals, risk managers and decision-makers from across the Nordics and beyond to Tampere from 8 to 10 September. As workplaces face increasingly complex risks, from multilingual construction crews to distributed lone workers, the tools employers use to manage occupational safety are changing too. Here are three smart tools we expect to see shaping the conversation at EuroSafety 2026, and where FlexManager fits into each one.
Digital Risk Assessment and RAMS Tools
Under Section 10 of the Finnish Occupational Safety and Health Act (738/2002), employers must systematically identify workplace hazards and assess their significance to employee safety and health. The assessment must be reviewed when circumstances substantially change and otherwise kept up to date.
The principle is straightforward: a risk assessment needs to remain relevant as workplaces, tasks, equipment and working conditions evolve.
Operational benefits include:
- Risk assessments that reflect current site conditions, not last year’s
- A clear, dated record when a regulator, client or internal team needs evidence
- Faster updates when a task, site or team changes
- Better visibility of risk information across locations and teams
Where FlexManager fits: FlexManager’s Risk Assessment and RAMS tools help teams build and update assessments digitally, from the office or the field, with version history retained as assessments evolve.
Lone Worker Protection
Section 29 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (738/2002) specifically addresses lone working. Where working alone creates an evident risk or hazard to an employee’s safety or health, the employer must ensure that the risk is avoided or minimised. The employer must also provide an opportunity for necessary communication with the employee and ensure that help can be summoned when needed.
For sectors such as facilities management, utilities and field services, where employees may regularly work away from colleagues or direct supervision, these requirements have clear operational implications.
Operational benefits include:
- A structured approach to lone-worker communication and emergency arrangements
- Faster response when a lone worker needs assistance
- Clearer visibility of who is working alone and what support arrangements are in place
- Better consistency than relying on informal phone calls or individual processes
Where FlexManager fits: FlexManager’s Lone Worker tools give employers a structured way to manage lone-working activity and keep communication and emergency arrangements visible, helping organisations move away from informal processes and towards a more consistent approach.
Smart Incident Reporting
Finnish legislation contains specific reporting requirements for serious occupational accidents. When an occupational accident causes death or serious injury, the employer must notify the police and the occupational safety and health authority without delay.
Separately, under the Workers’ Compensation Act (459/2015), employers must notify their insurance institution of occupational accidents and diseases without delay and no later than ten working days after becoming aware of the claim event.
Effective incident management also depends on having a structured way to record what happened, investigate contributing factors and track corrective actions. Finnish occupational safety guidance highlights accident and dangerous-situation investigation as an important way of identifying measures to prevent similar incidents. When that process relies on someone remembering to complete a form after the fact, important details can be lost and timelines can slip.
Operational benefits include:
- A faster, more consistent response when something goes wrong
- Clear records to support internal investigations and required notifications
- Better visibility of corrective and preventive actions
- Long-term insight into where incidents and recurring risks are occurring
Where FlexManager fits: FlexManager’s Incident Reporting and Injury Manager tools help teams capture incidents as they happen, from any device, using structured information that can support the immediate response, investigation and follow-up process.
Structured, Connected and Ready for Audit
Nordic employers are managing increasingly complex safety operations across multiple sites, languages, teams and contractors. Bringing risk assessment, lone-worker management and incident reporting into one unified platform gives organisations a connected view of safety information, rather than forcing teams to reconstruct it from separate systems when it is needed.
FlexManager helps connect operational safety processes with workforce and other operational information, giving organisations greater visibility and consistency across their day-to-day activities.
