As you may recall from our post last week, the 20th iteration of the Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim tool place last Saturday (July 19th) where swimmers took on the Atlantic, and swam from Aughinish Co.Clare, to Blackrock Tower in Salthill, Co. Galway.
This event was the culmination of months of practice and organisation, and it was brilliant to see everything come to fruition. All proceeds were to Cancer Care West, who provide professional community-based practical and emotional support, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer.
On our recent Facebook post, the Galway Bay Swim page commented:
“Many thanks to all at FlexManager for supporting this event. Your CEO George Curley is an absolute legend who is such a great asset to this event and we would be lost without him.”
We asked George about his support of the event:
“I’m tied to the swim in a few ways, I have previously swam it, acted as a pilot and now under my role with OMCSU, so I’m involved in trying to keep everyone safe during the swim.
The swim has gone from strength to strength with this year having the largest number to swimmers, 157 in total were involved. The swim is a massive achievement for anyone who undertakes it. It is the best know marathon swim in Ireland and for most swimmers, a goal to be achieved.
FlexManager has always supported the open water swimming community, sponsoring many swims and swim leagues in the west of Ireland, now to be involved with this swim is, for me personally, a great evolution of our continuing support of physical activities, swimming in particular.”

We look forward to continuing our support for this event next year! Well done again to all involved!
