Railway Near Miss in the UK Prompts Examination
In the UK, a near miss involving a passenger train and a telehandler took place towards the end of August, prompting the Rail Accident and Investigations Branch (RAIB) to release a recent news story on the matter. North Yorkshire was the location of the close call.
The near miss took place close to 8:30 am when a passenger train almost collided with a telehandler. According to the RAIB, the telehandler’s driver had received permission to travel to the other side of the crossing from the signaller prior to the near miss.
Nevertheless, the near miss still took place despite this precautionary step. As a result of this, the RAIB has made the decision to carry out a preliminary examination.
Near misses happen – that’s a fact for every business. Within the HSEQ framework, near misses are a reminder that something needs to be looked at from a safety perspective. At FlexManager, we recognise the value of heeding these events for what they are: a chance to fix processes and create safety-first compliance.
As part of our solutions, we have an array of Health & Safety modules that can help you engage with near misses. Risk Assessments, Safety Observations, and Lessons Learnt are just a few of the options that can help you react to this kind of event.
Why not book a demo today to understand more about how FlexManager can help you shape your focus towards near misses? That way, the next time one happens, you’ll know what action to take.
