Automaker Recalls Almost 200,000 Cars Over Defect
A car maker in China has had to recall some 183,000 cars following the discovery of a defect in the cars’ brake pedal. The issue relates to potentially causing the vehicles’ brake lights staying lit up even when the brakes are not actively being used.
The car manufacturer in question is BYD, and the recall order was given by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation. BYD are actively working to replace the parts that are not fit for purpose, and they will be doing so for free as they aim to resolve the defective parts for customers.
The defects relate to BYD’s Qin and Tang series, but only to cars that were sold in China from 2014 to 2022. Recently, in Australia, BYD also had a recall for over 36,000 of its Shark 6 pickup truck model.
This latest news from BYD reminds us yet again that defects happen, sometimes at scale like this. The severity of the defects can depend on the particular scenario in question, but what remains constant is surely the need to have tools to manage the situation.
