Recent HIQA Inspection Underlines the Importance of Fire Safety Arrangements

In Ireland, findings were this week released by HIQA following an inspection that was carried out in April of this year at a Care Centre in Ballinasloe. Some of the key findings related to effective fire safety implementation.

The inspection outlined the need for the Care Centre to improve its fire safety arrangements. At the time of the inspection, HIQA issued an urgent action for the provider to ensure the safety of residents.

The report outlined in detail that the provider was non-compliant in a number of areas regarding fire safety. These included missing seals on fire doors, missing evacuation fire action notices for staff and visitors, and some trip hazards that would be an issue during an evacuation.

“Subsequent to the inspection, a satisfactory response was received from the provider and accepted by the Chief Inspector,” the report detailed. As such, it’s clear that the provider took the necessary steps in light of the report’s findings.
