This accreditation emphasizes continuous improvement and overcoming future challenges through the implementation of proactive measures. The core principles include:
- Plan, Do, Check, Act (a.k.a. “PDCA”) cycle. This is carried out in three main stages:
- Conducting an audit of current environmental management practices to create a clear picture of what is current practice
- Create a programme of measures to be taken/developed, and a schedule for when these will be incorporated
- Evaluate the new practices via regular auditing, and update the environmental management changes as necessary
- Resource efficiency and waste reduction, promoting a more cognizant approach to resource usage
- Creating an environmental policy both in-house through trainings, and externally through the business interactions
