October: Where Fire Safety Takes Centre Stage

All this October, our attention will be pulled toward fire safety. The month will see two particularly important fire safety-related campaigns taking place, including Fire Prevention Week in the United States, and Fire Safety Week in Ireland. With so much emphasis on this particular hazard, it’s hoped that these campaigns will increase awareness and help reduce risk across the board. So, let’s break down what the themes are and what takeaways we can expect to be delivered.
Empowering people to take action and understand more
With two distinct weeks to focus people’s attention on fire safety awareness, it’s hoped that awareness will be boosted to focus on best practice around fire safety. The statistics tell an important story that’s worth heeding: According to the WHO, there are an estimated 180,000 deaths caused every year by burns, a significant number, with the majority taking place at work or home.
Clearly, fire safety and burn prevention awareness could play a key role in drastically reducing this number even further. So many of the industries we provide our compliance software to can potentially be confronted with fire during the course of their work. As such, we’re happy to spread the news about these two fire safety awareness weeks so that more people can understand what the risks are as well as how to minimize them.
Lithium-ion battery awareness
Fire Prevention Week, running from October 4th to October 10th, is particularly concentrated on “everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.” Run by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), it offers an extensive array of resources for almost anyone to increase awareness about fire safety best practices from this perspective.
So many assets in today’s workplace are powered by lithium-ion technology. That’s one of the reasons why it’s so crucial to see such a specific, targeted campaign boosting awareness about this topic.
Awareness helps ease the burden on emergency services
When everyone is on the same page, it can help ease the burden on emergency services – an already highly demanded service. Having the relevant knowledge of what to do, and perhaps more importantly what not to do, will surely mean fewer incidents and less strain on our fire & rescue teams.
At FlexManager, we provide our smarter compliance software in one unified platform to fire & rescue operations across Ireland, from east to west. We provide the tools for them to seamlessly engage with inspections, training, and apparatus maintenance, assisting with real-time readiness visibility across every station and watch. We understand what these operations need in order to stay on top of their compliance, as well as how our platform makes the processes more transparent, helping lead to audit-ready results instantly. Undoubtedly, raising awareness of fire safety is so important as it can have a beneficial impact on fire & rescue services.
So, there you have our blog on fire safety awareness, considering Fire Prevention Week in the United States, and Fire Safety Week in Ireland. Here at FlexManager, we hope that October passes without incident and that everyone picks up the safe practices we all want to see, whether at home or at work. Why not share this blog with your network so that more people know what’s happening this October?
