HSA Launches New Construction Equipment Safety Campaign
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) this week launched a new campaign in collaboration with the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI). The campaign is aimed at raising awareness around the crucial nature of practicing safe working around plant, machinery, and vehicles in the construction industry.
The campaign, titled ‘People – Plant – Safe Separation’ is running for two weeks, from September 7th until September 18th. Ultimately, the goal of this campaign is that this fortnight of messaging and awareness can help reduce the number of accidents and fatalities seen in the construction sector.
It comes off the back of figures released showing that from 2016 to 2025 as many as 25 people died as a result of incidents involving construction plant, machinery, and vehicles on the island of Ireland. The HSA and the HSENI will focus their efforts on the responsible operation of machinery, the duties of plant operators, and managing risks.
“Construction sites are busy high-risk environments where workers and machinery often operate in close proximity. Effective planning, safe systems of work, competent operators and clear separation of people from moving plant can prevent life-changing injuries and fatalities. This campaign is a reminder to everyone in the industry to stop, assess the risks and ensure work can be carried out safely,” Senior Inspector at the HSA, Joan Flynn, said.
