Fire Safety Importance Highlighted by HIQA Inspection at Hospital
An impromptu inspection in April of this year by HIQA at an Irish hospital found fire safety concerns. The inspection was carried out by two HIQA officials at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Carlow, Ireland.
The hospital was assessed across 11 categories, with three of them falling into the ‘Not Compliant’ bracket. Fire precautions were one of the categories that HIQA found the hospital to be non-compliant in.
HIQA’s report detailed that many of the issues outlined in a fire safety risk assessment from 2011 had not been addressed. Among the fire safety concerns pointed out in the latest report included an escape door that was not working, emergency exit signs pointing to incorrect destinations, fire detection and containment shortcomings, and more.
In addition to details of compliance/non-compliance, the report also outlined what the hospital was aiming to rectify – including a commitment to bolstering fire safety. The report highlights once again just how crucial compliant fire safety is.
