Hundreds of Quality Control Issues Found After Review of Motor Maker

Motor manufacturing production line, representing the quality control issues uncovered in Nidec's third-party review

A panel has found that a Japanese motor manufacturer had some 844 misconduct cases linked to the company’s materials, processes, and designs relating to their products. The panel comes off the back of a quality inspection in January of this year by the company itself that led to them disclosing suspected quality irregularity cases.

Nidec is the company in question, the Japanese motor manufacturer, and they gave the green light for the third-party panel to be set up. It allowed the outside party to carry out an expert review that ended in a report.

The report outlined that one of the reasons behind the quality control issues owed to “pressure from various business processes, including performance targets, cost reduction, and delivery deadlines”. The report recommended Nidec to review how they manage quality-related information and take corrective action.

In response to the developments relating to Nidec’s quality control, the company itself said, “Nidec will dedicate all its strength to regain the spirit as a proud manufacturer with a quality- and customer-first spirit and regain our customers’ and society’s trust as soon as possible.” They also added that they would carry out appropriate disciplinary actions on employees involved.
