Orlando Contractor Cited for Safety Hazards

Horizontal directional drilling machine on a pipeline worksite, the source of the struck-by hazards cited in a fatal OSHA case

A pipeline installation contractor in Florida has been cited for exposing employees to safety hazards. The action comes following a fatal incident at a worksite that took a worker’s life.

The U.S. Department of Labor is the body that has doled out the citation following findings from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The company that was on the receiving end of the citation was T & T Pipeline Co. Inc. The fatal accident in question from March of this year involved a drilling machine that began to move during a replacement procedure, killing a worker involved.

According to the release detailing the citation: “OSHA cited the employer with a willful violation for exposing employees to struck-by hazards when working on a horizontal directional drilling machine and proposed $165,514 in penalties.” From the date of the receipt of the citation, T & T Pipeline Co. Inc. has 15 days to proceed with the direction given, communicate directly with OSHA, or argue against the findings.
