Machinery Safety Compliance Failure Costs €400,000 in Ireland
Machinery safety compliance is back in focus after an Irish dairy equipment manufacturer was fined €400,000 following a fatal incident linked to a design flaw in one of its products. The Health and Safety Authority found that a pneumatic powered gate, used to move animals through a milking parlour, lacked a required emergency stop device. The company had previously pleaded guilty to six charges under safety, health and welfare at work legislation, and the court heard the incident was preventable.
For manufacturers, the lesson goes beyond this one case. Products that leave the factory without full documentation confirming every required safety feature was specified, tested and signed off create risk long after the sale is complete. Once equipment is in the field, gaps in design records or missed verification steps are far harder and more costly to catch.
FlexManager’s Quality Control suite addresses exactly this stage of the process. Document Control and Assurance Assessments let manufacturers track design sign off against safety requirements, while Defect Investigations and the Legal Register keep a clear record of how issues are identified, escalated and resolved before products reach customers.
Could you show an inspector, today, that every safety feature on your current product line was verified and signed off before it shipped? Book a demo with FlexManager to see how our Quality Control tools support that trail.
